About the artist

Although I have been actively creating art most of my life a sudden resurgence in my late seventies has confirmed for me that making art is available to both young and old alike. The recent lockdown during Covid, though very difficult for many, was a joy for me. The weather was beautiful, my garden was in bloom, the air smelled cleaner as the traffic was almost non-existent. I'm sure this was the reason the light was brighter and the colours of nature intensified. I spent most of my time in the garden, reading, meditating and painting. I felt compelled to get some of those colours down on paper and try to express the feelings I was experiencing. I escaped into the world of the flora and fauna of the natural world and even returned to the wild side when reminiscing on travels past to Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Singapore the US and Europe. The result is a collection of work in a variety  of mediums with an emphasis on colour and a tendency to a freer and more abstract expression, while my pen and ink sketches and intuitive designs focus my mind in a more meditative way.

I learned to play the piano when I was 4 years old and acquired many medals and cups in festivals around the North of England playing as a soloist and a duetist through my early teens.

My professional life was in the field of Oncology working with cancer patients delivering radiotherapy treatment as a Therapeutic Radiographer and later providing support in a Cancer Information Centre. I briefly worked as a music teacher before going to Africa with my husband for five years. During that time, as a travel consultant, I arranged many world wide travel itineraries for returning overseas workers and local holidays within Africa itself.

I am retired from secular work but a Christian ministry keeps me busy and I enjoy time for my art.  Over the years I have been commissioned for portraits of people's well loved pet dogs, cats, horses, the occasional child and also some wildlife pieces . Pastel was the favourite medium of mine until the last few years when I experimented with acrylics, watercolours, pen and Indian ink, alcohol inks, gouache, graphite, charcoal and natural mediums like tea and coffee. Mono and Gelli printing has also been a new path for me and I continue to have great fun experimenting with these.

I sincerely hope that you too will experiment in a playful and relaxed way and lift your spirits with a journey of your own into art.  It is a great source of joy and a great leveller in today's tumultuous world.
